Para Modules: VERS/SARKMS
This week Parashift launched our most anticipated module – VERS/SARKMS. Our customers have been using this module since we received certification in August 2014.
So, you may ask what is VERS/SARKMS? Chances are if you are from Victoria or South Australia, you would have a fair idea about what these acronyms mean. But in case you don’t, I’m going to explain to you exactly what this module does.
VERS stands for Victorian Electronic Records Strategy, and is an important records management standard in Victoria, Australia. It was developed by the Public Record Office of Victoria to help Victorian government agencies manage, store and access their electronic records. One of the benefits is that it ensures that Victoria’s key electronic information can identified, preserved and accessible in the future, regardless of how it was created. It does this through the definition of specific supported file types and associated metadata.
SARKMS is South Australia’s Record Keeping Metadata. It specifies its own metadata to be collected and stored securely, but it also relies on the VERS standard to be compliant.
The Parashift; VERS/SARKMS add-on module for Alfresco was created so that Alfresco could be VERS and SARKMS compliant. This was to be counted among the select few products that can be used by Victorian and South Australian government agencies.
To achieve VERS certification, Parashift had to meet 5 specifications. Parashift ‘s Managing Director Kieren Fitzpatrick said, “We had a solid foundation to build upon – we just needed to add an Australian flavour to it.“ Parashift has brought to the Australian market an enterprise-grade open source records management solution that now meets the government standards.
